Extension to Post 16 Centre, Ashfield School

Extension to Post 16 Centre, Ashfield School Image

Construction of a two storey extension, of approximately 597 sq m, to the current Post 16 Centre to provide study, storage, teaching and office facilities. The new space will allow the creation of a new library on the first floor and, on the ground floor, a flexible teaching space with moveable partitions.

Externally, access paths, a new retaining wall, drainage, services and boundary works are also part of the project.

The site is located in the middle of the existing school complex and is bounded by the other school buildings, footpaths and other boundaries. The school site itself is partially bordered by residential areas. The building will be partially located on the site of the now demolished Music Block.

As works are mostly being carried out in a live environment, starting during the summer term and completing during the autumn term, special attention will be paid to the impact of works on the running of the school. In particular, delivery hours for materials will be restricted so that they do not clash with pupils arriving and leaving the campus.

Before orders are placed, sub-contractors will be invited to visit the site to assess access routes. A partial one way system will be in place around the campus. All orders will be placed to arrive ‘just in time’ and deliveries carefully co-ordinated.

Prior to commencing on site, enabling works to form a temporary access road were carried out. This will allow easier access to the site past existing school buildings and will be made good after the project is completed.

The site team will liaise closely with the school throughout the project duration to ensure that they are regularly updated on progress and activities on the site. This will be particularly important during exam time, when the site team will work to minimise any possible disruptions caused by the project.
